Whole Wheat Pizza Recipe

Try this happy face pizza recipe made using whole wheat flour—because a fun pizza doesn't always need to be made with stripped-of-nutrients white flour.

Ingredients for the pizza dough

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar preferably organic
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tblsp olive oil

Ingredients for the toppings (Quantity as per your liking)

  • Yellow and green bell peppers capsicum
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Olives
  • Mushrooms
  • Garlic salt
  • Mixed herbs
  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese grated


  • Combine wheat flour, salt, sugar, yeast, oil, and warm water in a bowl.
  • Make a dough by mixing all the ingredients either by stirring them vigorously with a spoon or you could use a food processor. (If you feel the dough is too sticky, add some more flour and mix properly.)
  • Keep the dough aside for an hour. (It will rise as shown in pic.)
  • Mix the dough again and let it ferment for 30 minutes.
  • Coat the dish with a bit of flour and then roll the dough.
  • On top of the pizza dough, spread pizza sauce, sliced veggies, garlic salt, pizza herbs, and finally mozzarella cheese. (In the ingredients list, I have mentioned the veggies used by Amala, but you can use veggies of your choice.)
  • Make a happy face on the grated cheese using toppings of your liking.
  • Preheat the oven for 10 minutes, and then bake for 15 minutes on high temperature. (Amala hasn't mentioned temperature because it may differ for oven to oven. Use the highest temperature setting on your oven.)
