Whole Wheat Pancake Recipe (Godachi Dhirdi)

Looking for a healthy pancake recipe for breakfast? Try these pancakes made using whole wheat flour instead of refined (all-purpose) flour.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 th cup whole wheat flour chapati atta
  • 1/4 th cup sooji semolina
  • Approx. 1 tbsp jaggery
  • Pinch of nutmeg powder optional
  • 1-2 tsp homemade ghee clarified butter
  • Approx. half cup milk
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Take some water in a bowl and dissolve jaggery in it. (Optionally you can use powdered organic jaggery.)
  • Mix whole wheat flour, sooji, nutmeg powder, and salt in another bowl.
  • Add dissolved jaggery, and then go on adding some milk till you get a batter of desired consistency. (The batter should have dosa batter-like consistency.)
  • Whisk well to ensure no lumps remain in the batter.
  • Heat a non-stick tava pan (flat skillet pan), add 1 tsp ghee and spread it on tava evenly.
  • Pour the batter in the center of the pan and then spread it evenly to form a small pancake.
  • After a couple of minutes when one side is properly cooked, flip the pancakes to cook the other side. (Initially cook the pancakes on medium flame, later on you can lower the heat.)
  • Serve the pancakes hot/warm with some ghee added on top. You can also serve them with some milk.

Notes

You can make different shaped pancakes by using steel cookie cutters. You can make heart-shaped pancakes for Valentine's Day breakfast. Grease the cutters with oil or ghee, and then keep them on the pan and pour the batter in them to get the desired shape.
You can serve the pancakes by adding some honey on top. In which case, don't add jaggery in the batter.
